Shadow on Concrete Wall

Maundy Thursday is the day during Holy Week that commemorates the Washing of the Feet and Last Supper of Jesus.
At the conclusion of Maundy Thursday service, all appointments, linens, and paraments are removed from the altar and chancel in preparation for Good Friday.
Stripping of the altar symbolizes the abandonment of Jesus by his disciples and the stripping of Jesus by the soldiers before his crucifixion. It represents the humiliation of Jesus and the consequences of sin as a preparation for the celebration of new life.
